Las Vegas, NV — In a significant effort to support childhood literacy, Findlay Automotive has donated $100,000 to Spread the Word Nevada, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing literacy among low-income communities. Since its inception in 2001, Spread the Word Nevada has distributed an impressive 7.2 million books and currently donates 70,000 books each month to students. To date, the organization has provided books to 1.1 million students across Nevada.
Chad Leavitt, Chief Accounting Officer for Findlay Automotive and board chair for Spread the Word Nevada, expressed his passion for the cause. “When I first learned about the organization, I realized how fortunate my family has been to never worry about affording books. Literacy is the key that opens every door of opportunity for a young person’s future. If you can’t read, there aren’t many options for you. That’s why I feel so passionate about Spread the Word Nevada’s mission to improve literacy for low-income kids.”
Spread the Word Nevada was co-founded by Lisa Habighorst, who now serves as the CEO. With a background of 12 years as an elementary and middle school teacher, Habighorst has been a driving force behind the organization since its inception in July 2001. Under her leadership, Spread the Word Nevada has grown into the largest literacy nonprofit in the state.
Habighorst oversees the overall management of the organization, including daily operations, employee supervision, and financial oversight. She dedicates substantial time to strategic planning and fostering Board relations to ensure the program’s growth and stability.
Upon receiving the donation from Findlay Automotive, Habighorst was deeply moved. “This will have a huge impact on our organization. I can’t thank Findlay Automotive and Chad enough. They have done so much for us over the years, and this generous donation, along with Chad’s administrative contributions, will ensure that we can continue our mission for many years to come.” The timing of the donation coincides with Spread the Word’s plans to purchase a larger facility to meet the tremendous demand of their services. The purchase of the new building will enable the organization to be more self-sustaining.
Tyler Corder, CFO of Findlay Automotive, emphasized the importance of this donation. "We support many charities on a regular basis but this is a larger donation for us than usual. We have known this organization for many years, and with our Chief Accounting Officer on their board, we have a unique relationship and understanding of their mission. We know exactly what the impact of this donation will be."
Spread the Word Nevada is always looking for volunteers to help clean and sort books. With 70,000 books to sort and deliver each month, volunteer efforts are crucial. The organization also welcomes donations of books for all ages and financial contributions. To get involved, visit SpreadTheWordNevada.org.
